The past few months have been challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We continued to hold lab meetings remotely and today we are back in the lab! Everyone is excited to get the ball rolling on some new (and old) experiments!

The lab welcomed its first students! It will be a thrill working with such a group of excited scientists:
- Cleopatra Rutihinda will be doing her MSc in Radiation Sciences and Biomedical Imaging
- Georges Kabal Ntumba and Mahite Legault will be doing a coop rotation in the lab
- Ebru Tas is a visiting M2 student from France who will be completing her thesis project in the lab

The Canadian government opened a special program to attract students from specific countries to pursue a Master's degree in Canada. I am looking to recruit 2 Master's students to work in my lab on radiation therapy in cancer. The study is fully funded by the government of Canada ($120,000 for 2 years). The list of eligible nationalities includes Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank.

I'll be giving a talk for the department of immunology and cell biology today. The talk will be on how immune phenotyping should be integrated into radiotherapy treatment planning.

The CRCHUS invited a great speaker, Jonathan Bramson from McMaster University to speak about engineering the fight against cancer. The talk focused on genetic modification of T cell receptors for improved recognition of tumor associated antigens.

Startup fund has been activated and we look forward to begin purchasing important supplies for the lab. An important topic for starting labs including ours is strategic spending of startup funds, particularly in the absence of external grants.

Attended my first Radiation Sciences program meeting and obtained the permission to supervise grad students.

We began organizing the lab equipment that we received last week. We are grateful to Huda Oweida for her amazing touches and assistance.

We obtained the first set of instruments and equipment for our lab. We are grateful to the CHUS administration for allowing us to obtain equipment from labs that closed down. Some of the equipment we obtained includes Western blot apparatus, microplate reader, light microscope and histology apparatus. We are grateful to Lucas, MSc student in pharmacology for his invaluable assistance in delivering items to the lab.

Met with VWR rep, Loreleï Durand who just started her position after completing her PhD from UdEM. We discussed new lab supplies and opened an account with VWR for future purchases.

The Lab - We have finally landed on earth and it feels like heaven again! Deep in the research centre of Sherbrooke university and between the walls of the immunology department, we have found our home. More specifically, 4th floor of the CRCHUS.

The Office - Beginning of the journey - stepping into my new office and meeting my department colleagues. Placing a plant on my window that will share the office space with me and serve as a reminder that growth doesn't happen overnight!
